It really happens

Yesterday, the bank on my block, literally 20 feet from my office, was robbed at gun point. That is so weird. Who actually does these things? And who decides that 1pm on a clear Tuesday afternoon, at a location 1 block from a police station in midtown manhattan sound like good odds?

Idiots. Hope they got caught.

Heath ledger died yesterday, and a girl in my office said, "oh my god, that is just so HEARTBREAKING! I hate it when young people die!" Is it, really? Why is heath ledger's death ( or the skanky whatshername, anna nicole smith's) death more important than an average death? Young people die all the time. Does your heart break for everyone? Then how are you still functioning? I hate people that throw around empty sentiment about celebrities. Maybe he was an asshole. Maybe he beat his wife. He was probably a drug addict, so it's quite possible that
a fair number of people will be better off without him. You don't know this person, so you're not experiencing a loss. And if you say, "but he was so young! He was in his prime!" I think doug stanhope said it best: how do you know? Maybe he was out of material. Maybe gay cowboy was his final glorious achievement, and he had nothing more to bring to the table. ( I'm paraphrasing here. Stanhope didn't say anything about heath ledger or gay cowboys).

Maybe the truth is your addicted to drama in your insignificant little life, and you feel a little tingle in your panties whenever there's a tragedy that can distract you from your bleary existence for an hour.
